Corporate leadership

The FCO Board provides the FCO’s corporate leadership, in delivering the policies and services that are set by Ministers.  As well as detail about the FCO Board and its ten members, you can find out more about the Permanent Under-Secretary who chairs the Board.

The FCO overseas

Through our network of 233 Posts worldwide the FCO is responsible for:

  • conducting business with other governments and international organisations
  • protecting British citizens abroad
  • promoting British commercial and other interests across the world.

 

Permanent Under-Secretary

Peter Ricketts became Permanent Under-Secretary in July 2006.

Our directorates

The Permanent Under-Secretary (PUS) has overall responsibility for managing the FCO’s resources and for policy advice given to Ministers.  This work is shared between the eight members of the FCO Board.
